These are the interview transcripts and citations for my analysis of the ASU Palestine encampment.
My interviews were relatively unstructured, although I mainly asked questions to understand the organizations which composed the encampments as well as asking about strategic decisions.
Henry: Hi Clancy, I wanted to talk to you about the ASU encampments. How did you get involved and find out about it?
Clancy: I got texted independently from two different people I was close with, not really through any organization, just people in the know. I heard about the encampments from across the country. I had work the day before, so I couldn't show up to the planning meeting. I just showed up the next morning.
H: So you weren't directly involved in orgs, just tangentially?
C: Yeah that's right.
H: That makes sense. I believe you were arrested and suspended for a semester. How did that happen?
C: Well, I'm not sure how much I should say, given that there are still people with current charges.
H: Yeah that's fair. Were you familiar with any of the organizations that were involved with the encampment?
C: I knew a friend who was involved with socialist revolution since freshman year. Well I guess it's now called RCA.
H: Ok so you were familiar with the RCA. Were familiar with the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL)?
C: Right, they're one of the parties. I know RCA is Trotskyist, and I'd gone to one of their more popular meetings. I also know about MeCHA, which is just generally anti-imperialist.
H: How would you describe PSL?
C: I think that they're the biggest "socialist socialist" organization in America. Like, not just democratic socialists, who are essentially on the national level, social democrats, but actual socialists.
H: I generally agree. The PSL is probably larger than the RCA. Both are the largest other than the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Are you familiar with any of the Palestinian nationalist or anarchist organizations?
C: I've heard of SJP and mass lib, who I heard of the day of.
H: I'm not familiar with mass lib.
C: I think they're involved in the legal arena.
H: How popular do you think the encampment was among ASU students as a whole?
